SRS uses the existing genitalia to create the new genitalia, so I'm not sure if this is currently possible. It'd be neat if it was -- if some of us, as a species, are gonna be born with a mismatch between body and identify, then anything that gives us more choices to correct it would be great. It certainly would be possible, and would be easier for a male to go into it (since there is more external genitalia to work with). Theoretically, hormones and/or surgery could make a person appear more androgynous, though those may not even be neccessary depending on what you are starting with.I do not know at all how you could go around finding a surgeon to perform such a thing though. A male could get a longer, more feminine hairstyle, and dress more feminine, and could appear androgynous.

In the real word most hermaphrodite species are simple species, and most live in isolated areas where finding another of their species is harder thus increasing the benefit of ensuring the ability to mate with any you find, and/or yourself if none are found in some species.

It is also considered to be a rather politically incorrect term.

If you mean having surgery to have ambiguous genitalia as opposed to all other sex-based organs, then I'd imagine it is theoretically possible, though I haven't heard of any surgeon in the US that has done that procedure thus far.

There is a reason more 'complex' species don't tend to be hermaphrodites (forgive my simplification of referring to species like mammals as more complex, I'm not implying evolutionary levels, just more extensive genetic code).

In theory it doesn't cost much for a female to have 'male parts' and be a hermaphrodite.
